Abandoned House Burns Near Walhalla
A fire near Walhalla burned about a half-acre of woods along with an abandoned house Thursday afternoon, June 16.
Round Top-Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department received a call reporting a fire near the corner of Walhalla Rd. and Wynne Ln. around 1:35 p.m. Round Top-Warrenton Fire Chief Frankie Srubar said workers at the property were cutting up the frame of an old trailer house. He said sparks from a cutting torch started the fire.
The fire spread to an abandoned wood-frame home on the heavily wooded property. Srubar called for assistance from La Grange, Fayetteville and Ledbetter VFDs. The three departments sent personnel and much-needed water to the remote location.
In all, it took 10 fire trucks and about 30 firefighters from the four departments to extinguish the blaze. Srubar said all personnel left the scene by around 5 p.m.
