70 Applicants So Far for Flatonia Head Football Coaching Position

Flatonia I.S.D. continues to take applications for the position of boys athletic director and head football coach. The application deadline is Monday, Jan. 16 at 3:30 p.m.

Flatonia Superintendent Chris Sodek said close to 70 candidates have applied for the job so far. Sodek said the school board will review the applications after Jan. 16 and select six to 10 candidates for interviews.

“Our plan is to have someone in place when we return from spring break,” Sodek said.

Spring break for Flatonia I.S.D. runs from March 13-17.

Chris Freytag, the former boys athletic director and head football coach in Flatonia, resigned at the end of the football season to take a position with Team Funded, a company that helps school athletic departments and other organizations with fundraising.

This past season was one of Freytag’s best in his 13 years at Flatonia. The Bulldogs won district and advanced to the regional semifinals before losing to Shiner and finishing the season 11-2.
