4,767 County Ballots Cast in Election
Fayette County Elections Administrator Terri Hefner reported a very good voter turnout for the Nov. 7 Constitutional Amendment Election.
According to the unofficial results, 4,767 ballots were cast in the election, amounting to a 26.67 percent voter turnout. Of those, 1,949 ballots were cast in early voting and 2,818 were cast on election day. Fayette County turnout in the last constitutional amendment election in 2021 was just 9.98 percent.
“We had a higher turnout than we were expecting,” Hefner said.
Hefner said the school tax election in Fayetteville and the Schulenburg school bond election likely boosted the number of voters who turned out. She said the Schulenburg voting precinct almost ran out of paper ballots on election day. In addition, constitutional amendments concerning the right to farm, an increase in the homestead exemption and a cost-of-living adjustment for retired teachers attracted a lot of interest among voters both statewide and in Fayette County.
“I think every teacher in the state of Texas voted,” Hefner said.
Fayette County also held a special election to abolish the office of County Surveyor. It passed with almost 71 percent of the vote.
