10-Year-Old’s Birthday Party Raises $4,500 for Animals in Need
Marley Vasek and her mom, Erica, of La Grange, have been long-time volunteers and adopters at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS.)
Marley had an idea for her birthday that is somewhat unusual for a young lady her age. Marley’s 10th birthday was special, and she had a special idea in mind; to sing with Briana Adams Nov. 11 at Holman Valley Steakhouse, bring a crowd, and instead of birthday gifts, raise much needed funds for local animal welfare organizations: Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS) in Fayette County, Lucie’s Project in Sheridan, and Liberty 4 All Service Dogs in Kempner, which trains service dogs for veterans and others in need.
The big crowd was not disappointed. Marley is quite talented for her young age, and she clearly has her kind heart set on the stage. She also has a tremendous heart for animals.
We asked Marley why the animals were included in her birthday:
Q: What made you want to raise money for animals?
A: I love to volunteer at
the animal shelter, but I wanted to do more to help.
Q: What was your favorite part of the evening?
A: Having so many of my
friends and family there to support me.
Q: How does it make you feel knowing you helped to raise $4500 for animals in our area who need help?
A: It makes me feel so happy. “Marley is an amazing young lady in our community, who knows what she wants, with huge talent and an even bigger heart!” said Teresa Stanley-Brown, the animal shelter’s executive director. “Thank you, Marley, for thinking of those that can’t help themselves. The veterans and animal welfare organizations that benefitted from your birthday celebrations are deeply grateful.”
