Local first responders had a busy morning on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to an 18-wheeler wreck on Interstate 10 at the FM 2238 intersection in Engle shortly before 6:30 a.m. The 18-wheeler went off the roadway of Interstate 10 and crashed under the overpass bridge.

Then shortly before 7 a.m., the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reported a two-vehicle crash on SH 71 near Huelsebusch Rd. just west of La Grange. The wreck involved a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler pulling a gravel trailer.

Fayette County EMS transported patients in both wrecks to trauma centers in Austin.

Texas Department of Public Safety investigated both wrecks, but additional details were not available in time for publication.

Also on Wednesday morning, local DPS Trooper Josh Berger initiated a pursuit with a stolen vehicle on Interstate 10. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Florida. Berger pursued the vehicle into Guadalupe County where other officers were able to stop it using a spike strip. Berger arrested the two occupants, a juvenile and a 17-year-old.
