Let’s Love Kids More Than Guns

To The Editor: In general and on many specifics, I agree with Mr. Romberg’s letter last week about what must be done to limit gun violence in the US and fully support that we must demand more of our elected officials.

Safer Schools The Answer

To The Editor: As soon as the shooting occurred in Uvalde there was an outcry for politicians to do something, but what? The first words to be spoken have always been to control the guns in the hands of the mentally unstable or anyone for that matter. Ban the AR-15’s or AK-47’s has become a rallying cry to control the shootings, but will this really stop the needless violence? No.

History Repeats Itself

To The Editor: In response to Mr. Romberg’s letter, please allow me to respond to him point by point: 1.

The Price of What We’ve Chosen

To The Editor: The Preamble of our Constitution begins with this: “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union…insure domestic Tranquility…promote the general Welfare…” In light of present conditions, however, it looks like this was little more than a statement of good intentions, intentions that have gone badly awry as grieving parents in Uvalde and across the country will testify. We might wonder why it’s turned out this way but since large numbers of our fellow citizens adamantly reject the idea of national selfexamination—preferring to ban books and censor teaching—we’ll have a hard time figuring it out.

REMEMBER WHEN?

June 2-6, 1972 The La Grange High School seniors of 1972 voted unanimously to turn over all profits from their class activities to the Debbie Kolek fund. Glory Hunter Yearned To Fight Mexico Again

By the first of June 1837, the demobilized majority of the Texas Army was either headed for home or looking for work in the Lone Star Republic, much to the dismay of a reckless general who wanted to fight another round with Mexico.

Shrug is an Action Verb

What we do is shrug. Honestly now, isn’t that true? All we’ve been through here in the past two years, with each news broadcast bringing the pain of hundreds, thousands, millions right into our homes. We begin to develop an emotional callus, a protection against feeling all that misery.

Gunman Walked into School Building Unopposed

The gunman who killed 21 people inside a Uvalde elementary school walked into the unlocked building unopposed, the Department of Public Safety said in a revised statement, as reported by the Austin American-Statesman and other media sources.

What You Should Do About School Shootings

To The Editor: The conflict and disagreement between the advocates of gun control, on the one hand, and the advocates of unlimited Second Amendment rights on the other is not only absolutely ridiculous but may be fatal to the continued existence of our society. We – YOU and ME and my neighbor and your neighbor -- must speak up and DEMAND that our civic leaders -- elected, appointed and employed – take action now to eliminate shootings by demented people of innocent citizens, not just kids.

Offer Solutions, Not Blame

To The Editor: First let me say that the murder of students and teachers in Uvalde is a great tragedy for the State of Texas and America. In response to Mr.
