The Blood Drive held on Aug. 23 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church was a successful drive with credit for 22 units. There was a very good turnout and the leaders appreciate all who made appointments and gave blood. It was sponsored in conjunction with Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top.

To the Editor: Recently in The Fayette County Record there was mention of the solar farm’s approval tax abatement for Fayette County. There is considerable discussion as to the construction of this solar farm, but one hears little concerning this farm with COVID-19, USPS and upcoming presidential election in the forefront of any discussion.

To the Editor: Honestly, when I read about political signs being stolen around Fayette County in the FCR, I did not believe it, it’s so petty and small, I didn’t think any of my neighbors would engage in this behavior, but last weekend, while I was in Houston, three Biden lawn signs were stolen from in front of my garage. I am on Highway 237 and pretty visible but someone had to walk up to my property to get to the signs and this is disturbing.

To the Editor: Recent letters by former Democrat party chairs decried debate on universal voting by mail. Republicans are not opposed to absentee voting.

To the Editor: The Fayette County Commissioners Court is to be commended for having the political courage and the common sense wisdom to approve the solar farm tax abatement request which will generate more tax revenue for decades to come than the special valuations granted agricultural and wildlife preserve lands. In that same vein, now is the time, for the good of the people and the land of Fayette County, for our County Officials to demand and ensure that the LCRA commits now to implement in the near future a FPP coal plant exit strategy where Fayette County will not be left with its aquifers being poisoned by FPP’s leaking coal ash pits and the resulting loss of land values that would seriously impact both county and school district tax revenues.

To the Editor: Each time I see the name “Karen” used as an insult, I think about the lady down my street with that name. The sweet lady who buys plants and leaves them at our gate, who goes out of her way to drop a little bit of color into our lives with some flowers.

As thousands fled southeast Texas ahead of Hurricane Laura, Texas A&M promoted an Ike Dike as a critical way to protect the region from devastating damage. Texas escaped a direct hit from Laura, which made landfall as a Category 4 storm in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, just east of Port Arthur.
