Political Sign Theft
To the Editor:
Honestly, when I read about political signs being stolen around Fayette County in the FCR, I did not believe it, it’s so petty and small, I didn’t think any of my neighbors would engage in this behavior, but last weekend, while I was in Houston, three Biden lawn signs were stolen from in front of my garage. I am on Highway 237 and pretty visible but someone had to walk up to my property to get to the signs and this is disturbing. I have since installed motion video surveillance and lighting. Never before since I’ve lived out here have I been concerned about security at my home and that’s what makes this incident so sad.
This incident brings a few thoughts to my mind:
1. Trump supporters must be really scared about the election, perhaps they’re worried that they’ll lose in November;
2. Driving around Fayette County residents might think that everyone is voting for Trump and there are no Biden supporters out here, a huge misconception;
3. Whoever stole these signs from my home, assumed by me to be Trump supporters (because really why would Biden supporters steal them?) have low morals if they’ll come up on my property and steal something. Next time it might be a speaker on my porch or my car. Theft is theft.
This is very worrisome to me, it’s not just about a few yard signs, it’s part of a larger issue and that issue is law and order. Law and Order. The soul of America. I am sad and disappointed by this seemingly small and insignificant episode. An episode that has forced me to install security measures to protect my home. We should all allow each citizen to practice the First Amendment guaranteeing free speech and freedom of choice. We should respect the choices of others.
