Judge’s Response

To the Editor: This is a message Judge Weber said he sent to multiple people who asked him why the flags at the courthouse were not at half staff to honor the fallen Marines: Thank you for your inquiries with respect to flying the flag at half mast, your input as always is important to me. Having served 36 years in the Marine Corps and been with Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines when they have died in combat, and having made visits to homes at all hours of the day and night informing parents that their sons and daughters had given their lives – lowering our flag is not the way you honor them or their service, particularly when the combat operation is still ongoing.

Half-Staff Salute

To the Editor: Flying the U.S. flag at halfstaff is a way to salute and honor those who have given their lives in service to our country.

Summer is Tough on Your Feet

Leonardo da Vinci is quoted, “The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.” Texans could argue with that quote due to extreme heat in the summer. I don’t know about you but the first thing I do whenever I walk into the back door, is take my shoes off.

Honoring Those Who Sacrificed Their Lives

To the Editor: This is a photo and the names of the fallen service members that sacrificed their lives for us and the people of Afghanistan. Nancy Pelosi refused to allow their names to be read on the House floor Tuesday and honor their service.

Impeachment Would Not Be Enough

To the Editor: Last week, Retired Col. Richard Kemp, Commander of the British Forces in Afghanistan, was interviewed on national television and was asked his thoughts on how President Biden had handled the Afghanistan withdrawal.

Thanks to Physicians for Stepping Up

To the Editor: I would like to thank the three local physicians for stepping into the leadership void around the pandemic created by the absence of our county and school leaders, whose continued silence on the vaccine and masks speaks volumes. Doing the right thing is seldom doing the easy thing.
