It was 1977, a Canadian blizzard was sending severely cold weather down through the United States and it was reported that it was the worst winter in ten years. I was 20 years old and within a day or two I would be driving to Canada.

To the editor: Here is a short history of FPP that our future County Judge should be aware of when representing us: The Fayette Power Project (FPP) has been cited for numerous alleged violations over the last decade, primarily driven by excessive particulate matter (soot) emissions and groundwater toxicity linked to coal ash storage. As of late 2025, the facility faces active litigation claiming it under-reported pollution events to avoid state fees, alongside confirmed reports of arsenic and cobalt leaching into local aquifers.

To the editor: Regarding the essay “ICE and Memories from Liberia”. I was saddened and shocked by the end of the essay.

To the editor: There was mention in the opinions that postal service carries in La Grange area were dressed like hippies from the 1960s. I decided that I will have to take up for hippies.

To the editor: The recent events in Minneapolis have reached a level of depravity that should haunt every American, regardless of where they sit on the political spectrum. The murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, both American citizens, at the hands of federal agents are not just “tragedies” or “accidents,” they are a chilling demonstration of what happens when federal agencies are weaponized, poorly trained, and shielded by a dishonest leadership.
