In 1961 I graduated from La Grange High School. I took Vocational Agriculture (AG) for three years. In one of these three years, I took welding as one of my subjects. I didn’t really weld much but I learned the basic fundamentals from books and brochures. After graduation, I lived at home and worked for my Dad working on the farm and helping him move houses. He always said he was a farmer and a rancher and house moving was his third occupation. But he moved or leveled about 100 buildings a year so that kept him quite busy. While using heavy equipment, it kept breaking so he was spending a lot of time going to town to Bohot Welding shop to get stuff welded. So I convinced Dad to buy an electric welder.

To the Editor: Fayette County children of every race/color, income or faith should have the freedom to learn and pursue their dreams in a great public school, regardless of ability, where they live, or what they look like. But so-called School Choice is but a deceptive maneuver, a plan for hiding true intentions of a slippery slope.

To the Editor: Thank you for running State Senator Lois Kolkhorst’s press release describing her activities in the current legislative session. It is important that her constituents know how she is representing them.

As I age, and that trip is getting faster and faster, I find priorities I have had for years are changing. Habits I thought would be forever are rapidly falling away and replaced with new habits that put less stress on my life.

To the Editor: The idea that health care is, or should be, a right — guaranteed by God and funded by government — is what, in the end, killed St. Mark’s Hospital.
