What time is it? That depends on where you are in the world, if you are on Daylight Savings Time, and if you have a reliable watch, clock, or sundial. Sundials aren’t a ‘must have’ in my list of furnishings, so I must depend on my cellphone or my trusty antique clock that cares not where I’m located.

C APITAL Highlights The death of a Leander High School graduate from a fentanyl overdose has prompted state Rep. Terry Wilson, R-Georgetown, to file a bill that would require 10 hours of education annually concerning the dangers of the drug to students in sixth grade and up, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

A full-length, GP rated movie called “Yeller Headed Summer” was to be filmed in its entirety in La Grange during the summer. Arrangements for shooting the script about the trials of a small-town constable were completed when officials of the Texas Governor’s Office Texas Film Commission and John Ireland, one of the stars, met with Mayor L.W. Stolz Jr. and other city officials. The movie was to include other such well-known stars as Laurence Harvey, Stuart Whitman, Walter Pidgeon, Donna Reed and Warren Oates. Filming was to begin in May and, yes, local folks would have a chance to sign up to be extras. Ireland had just completed Escape in the Sun and a western film called Amen. Some of Ireland’s better known earlier films were “Welcome to Arrow Beach” and “All the King’s Men.”

To the Editor: St. Mark’s Hospital has converted to a limited-service Rural Emergency Hospital in a desperate attempt to remain financially viable.

To the Editor: Our County Commissioners have now met with and listened to both the CHC and St. Mark’s management team voicing opinions about the hospital’s current operation.

To the Editor: I could never understand how Germany, a nation of great universities and singular achievements in the arts and sciences, could have followed a demagogue like Adolph Hitler into the suicidal insanity and evil of Fascism. But now comes the ravings of Donald Trump, in my view, a former disgraced president who betrayed his oath of office and conspired and sought to overturn an honest and free national election in order to hang on to power.

What if? A question has no answer. A book has no ending.

To the Editor: I would like to express my thanks to Annette Citzler for her article titled “On Loving the Outcast” in the March 10 issue of The Fayette County Record. It was in sharp contrast to opinion letters that promote fear-mongering and spew hate.
