T EXAS History Harley Sadler, a household name throughout West Texas, made his last personal appearance at a benefit for the Boy Scouts on Oct. 9, 1954, but this time there would be no curtain call for the much loved king of the tent shows.

That Little Voice I’ve been fortunate during my lifetime to have many friends: close, distant, long term, current, male, female, loving, irritating, supportive, honest, sick, active, men, caring, needy, surprising, disappointing, spiritual, obscene, sane, funny, meditative, organized, females, cluttered, black, white, oriental, crazy, demanding, creative, bisexual, nerdy, argumentative, sexually actives, foreigners, virgins, natives, handicapped, athletic, smart, and not so bright. As I have thought about the different characteristics I have been attracted to, I’ve wondered in what category they each would place me as a friend.

To the Editor: Do you remember a special teacher who made a positive impact on your life? You know, the one who was there for you during a difficult time – whether it be a school or personal issue? If you are as old as I am, that teacher probably retired from education years ago. I am asking you to consider showing appreciation to that person, as well as all retired teachers, by voting for Proposition 9 in the upcoming election on November 7.

To the Editor: “Vote for Prop 9” signs will soon be popping up around town compliments of Texas Retired Teachers Association and Fayette County Retired Teachers Association. Prop 9 proposes a constitutional amendment to authorize the legislature to provide a cost-of- living adjustment to eligible retired teachers.

To the Editor: On Saturday, Nov. 23, 1957, the “Last Ride Gang” gathered for a long wait at Plum for a historic train ride – the last passenger train to La Grange.

To the Editor: I am writing to share my deep concern and disappointment following the recent vote by the Texas Senate to acquit Ken Paxton of the Articles of Impeachment. The outcome of this vote has left me disheartened, as it appears to be another troubling step in Texas’ descent into a deep abyss of cronyism, extreme partisanship, and corruption, all fueled by the substantial influence of billionaires.

To the Editor: Donald Trump’s term as President was by and large satisfactory. Conservative principles were applied and governmental institutions were generally respected and preserved.

To the Editor: School vouchers are not about the quality of private schools. Many private schools are wonderful.

Think back with me for a moment. Place yourself in a typical day, say, in 2019. Visualize the routine, the errands you ran, the shopping, eating. Visualize your work load, email, phone calls. Think about what you were feeling, the ordinary worries— family, friends, weekend plans—even vacation plans for the following summer. Think of all the people you loved then, living their usual, ordinary lives.
