Vote for Retired Teachers

To the Editor:

“Vote for Prop 9” signs will soon be popping up around town compliments of Texas Retired Teachers Association and Fayette County Retired Teachers Association. Prop 9 proposes a constitutional amendment to authorize the legislature to provide a cost-of- living adjustment to eligible retired teachers.

The reasons to vote for Prop 9 are as follows: 1. No public school retiree since 2004 has ever received a cost-of-living adjustment. Many retired teachers only source of income is the TRS pension.

2. It won’t create a tax increase. The Texas Legislature has already set aside the funds to make this happen with voter approval.

3. Prop 9 is endorsed by Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA.) The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association wholeheartedly endorses Prop 9.

It is long overdue for our retired teachers to get a costof- living raise.

Vote yes on Prop 9.
