Remembering our History

To the Editor: As we explore the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we remind ourselves that war inevitably changes a colony’s, nation’s, state’s, or community’s sense of itself: its values, identities, relationships, and sense of place. That point is essential to understanding rebellion.

Thank You Commissioners

To the Editor: With our leadership for our County, I’d like to say “Thank You” for being wise, alert and very proactive due to data centers creeping in to various counties close to Fayette County. It is greatly appreciated that we all stay on top of our rural lands and protect all that we have here in Fayette County.

Investing in our School

Eventually, she tried to sell it at a garage sale, and an art teacher shopping there commented that it looked like a “Jackson Pollock.” Experts examined it, and suddenly that five-dollar thrift-store purchase had the potential value of tens of millions.

Primary Turnout Smashes Recent Midterm Records

Nearly 4.5 million Texans voted in the Democratic and Republican primaries, according to The Texas Tribune, surpassing recent turnout numbers. A total of 2.3 million ballots were cast in the Democratic primary and 2.2 million in the Republican primary, marking the first time Democratic turnout was higher since 2020. Texas has approximately 18.7 million registered voters, so turnout was just under 25%.

A War We Didn’t Need

To the editor: The war now unfolding between the United States and Iran raises a troubling question: Was there really an imminent threat that justified starting this conflict? So far, the American public has seen little clear evidence that Iran was about to attack the United States. Yet President Donald Trump ordered military strikes that quickly pushed the Middle East into a dangerous and unpredictable war.
