Your Voters Guide in this Newspaper

Are you wondering about the insert that came with the newspaper today? The nonpartisan Voters Guide for the November 5 General Election is shared and paid for courtesy of the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas.

You may already be familiar with the League’s highly respected Voters Guide, published before every election. The Guide provides nonpartisan information on candidates and issues. This year, our local League is partnering with local newspapers for the first time to insert Voters Guides across our five-county area. In addition, Voters Guides in English and Spanish will be available at all public libraries and in various community locations by Friday, October 18 (or earlier), before early voting begins on Monday, October 21.

About Voters Guides:

Work on Voters Guides begins the day after each election’s filing deadline. The League compiles a list of all candidates running in the election. Candidates running in contested elections are invited to submit information that will appear in the Voters Guide. The League follows up with candidates numerous times to ensure that all have the opportunity to participate.

The information candidates provide is printed as submitted; the League neither edits nor verifies their content. Candidates are told that negative references to opponents, including officeholders or specific persons, are prohibited. If a response does not meet the criteria, the Voters Guide will state, “Response removed; does not meet criteria” or “Portion of response removed; does not meet criteria.” If a candidate does not respond after multiple contacts, the League still includes them in the Voters Guide with a note “no response received.” The printed Voters Guide includes all responses received by the League’s printing deadline. Responses submitted after the printing deadline are available to voters on VOTE411.org, the online interactive version of the Voters Guide.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, volunteer-led organization inspired by a vision of a democracy where every person has the desire, the right, the knowledge, and the confidence to participate. As a chapter of one of the oldest and most respected grassroots organizations in the United States, our South Central Texas League works toward this vision in Colorado, Fayette, DeWitt, Gonzales, and Lavaca Counties. As a nonpartisan organization, the League never supports or opposes candidates or political parties at any level of government.

Our South Central Texas League is pleased to share the Voters Guide more broadly with our community through local our newspapers and hopes this resource will encourage all registered voters to vote. We want South Central Texas to become known as the most voting community in Texas. To help us get there, our goal is to get Guides in all area papers for every future election. Please consider making a gift to support this effort. You can contribute through the Donations page on our League website, lwvsouthcentraltx.org, or by sending a check to PO Box 78, Hallettsville, TX 77964.
