Who Wins, Who Loses?
That Little Voice
When will we know the winners and the losers? When will we know the immediate results, and how long will it take us to determine the longer repercussions of the vote tally?
Those are questions foremost on my mind as I await the results of the 2024 U.S. election.
Emotions are running high and deep by many, both sides convinced they are right. This election will determine the future of not only our country, but the future of most of the world.
It is disquieting to think my vote, my beliefs, my actions can have an impact on how the universe will look after Tuesday’s voting. But it is also exhilarating to know I have the power, the right, and the responsibility through a ballot to state my preferences.
I am a citizen not only of the United States of America, but I am also a citizen of the world, of all the nations. Every person on the planet is a citizen of some country, but also of our world. We each have an obligation and should have the right to be heard through the ballot box.
I personally am filled with hope tinged with dread of which ‘side’wins, in whose hands the nation’s future will rest. The reality is no matter which party prevails, there is a strong possibility the after affects will lead to both parties losing.
Isn’t that a shame? To think our future depends on winning or losing, rather than understanding the goal is for each of us to grow positively, to embrace change, to hold each other in high regard, to love, rather than to demean, to share, and to be free without diminishing others or being diminished by others.
We truly are one, dependent on each other, no better or worse, no more or less, equal, each struggling to live our lives safely, productively, and peacefully.
So, I await the final results of this week’s election with apprehension and hope. Hope we can manage the future with peace, understanding, and togetherness, and with a bit of apprehension that some will seek retribution if their side doesn’t ‘win’.
God bless this world.
