When is Too Early for Christmas Decor?
A Lehmann’s Opinion
I read several Facebook posts complaining about seeing Christmas decorations on the outside of people’s homes right after Halloween. In my opinion, the day after Halloween is a little too early to be hanging Christmas lights or putting up any outside holiday décor on the lawn.
The week of Thanksgiving, my son was at home, and I asked him to hang the Christmas lights for us on the front of our house. While he was working on another project, my husband hung up the lights. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I usually have to beg and beg my husband to hang up the lights or to do any decorating for the holidays. I wonder how many other husbands feel the same way. Is it really that much of a chore? This year, I think we were the first ones in our neighborhood to have our lights up. At first, I was embarrassed how early it was and then I was grateful they were officially hung.
One of my favorite things to do during the Christmas holidays is to drive around town and look at how people decorate their yards or the lightning they use around their homes. I am in awe at the creativity of the Fayette County citizens. The sparkling and different array of colors just adds to the magic of the holiday season. It has always been amazing to me how people around the globe decorate with lights just at this time of the year. It feels like we are all unified in our excitement for this special season of the year.
The sparkle and excitement in a child’s eyes are something special in its own way. Their enthusiasm and the smiles on their faces are contagious. I do believe even adults become childlike during this time of the year.
La Grange and Fayette County have so many places that a person/family can see the lights of Christmas. The La Grange courthouse is just a sight to behold and all the lights around the businesses are so festive. Now, businesses are having special artwork done on their windows. What talent. I saw poles around businesses decorated with tinsel and candy canes. Some neighborhoods are one big lighted event. Once again, people in this community are so imaginative.
A special thank you to the citizens of this community for making this holiday season so merry and bright for all of us. Merry Christmas and have fun and remember to have patience with those husbands who drag their feet in decorating at this time of the year.
