Voting Responsibility

To the editor:

Thoughts from last weeks’ paper.

Margo Johnson, TMI.

From ‘Think Big When You Vote’, some comments. For legislative issues and censorship in Texas I think that those are brought up at the party’s State Convention which is propositions from the local conventions. At the state Republican convention this month there will be hundreds considered.

Ken Paxton was cleared on all counts of this character assassination trial brought by a figure from his own party who when called out for a violation did not humble himself but caused a much wasted legislative session and the need for special sessions. This was Dade Phalen’s quagmire, not Ken Paxton’s. But, watching some of the trial was very exciting when questions by the defense were asked so that truth could be exposed, not twisted scenarios- thank you Tony Buzbee for untangling my stomach knots and making me think and see there are two sides to every issue before judging!

As for voting, this is something we will be judged by God. Do we use this God-given privilege to keep our nation ‘One Nation Under God? I have failed many times to look down ballot and qualify the candidates and their voting history, only to find that later I would have not supported them. The county Republican party had three candidate forums, two hours each, broadcasts on the local radio station. Fayette County Republican Women had a candidate forum at their monthly luncheon. Each event had numerous questions for each candidate to clarify their stance. These were very informative and one could make their voting decisions fairly easy. Average attendance was around 75 voters. They were in three different locations around the county so everyone had the opportunity to attend/ hear on the radio and notices were in this paper. One could attend no matter their political stance.

Voting percentages are a disgrace to our God and Founding Fathers. William Penn, author of the book No Cross, No Crown, which he wrote while imprisoned in the Tower of London, was the founder of Pennsylvania. His first legislative act, “The Great Law of Penn,” stated, “Whereas the glory of Almighty God and the good of mankind is the reason and the end of government, and government itself is a venerable ordinance of God…let there be established laws as shall best preserve true Christian and Civil liberty, in opposition to all unchristian, licentious, and unjust practices, whereby God can have His due…
