Vote For Democrats

To the editor:

Ms. Rodibaugh, your opinions and those of conservative web sites are not necessarily facts. Most folks can figure this out, but some will just accept what someone writes as fact.

Here are some facts: I, a Democrat, do not hate the man, Donald Trump. I actually feel sorry for him and his family, especially his young son. His wife, Melania, has made her position clear – she stays hidden and silent. It is Trump’s policies that are so disturbing, and he clearly talks about them and lets us know what they are.

1. The idea that women cannot have the freedom to decide what to do with their own bodies is unacceptable and not what the majority of Americans want, and yet he brags about being responsible for the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, a constitutional right in the U.S., disrupting nearly 50 years of precedent.

2. Trump says he will ban people of certain cultures from entering the U.S. even though we are a diverse nation of many different cultures and religions.

3. He wants to do away with the Department of Education, pandering to the wishes of Christian Nationalists who are some of his biggest donors. Listen up teachers and retired teachers, we know that public education is the backbone of our Democracy. Don’t forget that Trump appointed Betsy Devos as Secretary of Education in his administration. She promoted school choice, school vouchers, and charter schools, not public schools.

4. Don’t ignore the warnings of economists that Trump’s vision of our economy would cause a recession. His tariffs and trickle down economics don’t work for middle class folks and poverty level families. It only makes the rich richer. We don’t want to prevent the success of corporations, just don’t hurt the hardworking families who are trying to get ahead.

5. Don’t ignore the warnings of his former cabinet members that Trump would be a danger to our security.

6. Don’t ignore the bullying, racist comments about immigrants, Jewish culture, minorities, women, anyone who disagrees with him. Trump puts lives in danger because there are certain folks who think they have been given permission to act on their darkest thoughts. Remember January 6.

7. The right to vote and the peaceful transfer of power is an American freedom we all should support. Trumps rhetoric could trigger another insurrection, and I can’t believe the majority of Americans want that.

8. Listen to the group, Republicans for Harris, when they report that “the soul of our nation” is on the line.

Voting, having a secure and safe election is an American privilege. Some Republicans want you to believe that voting is corrupt even though proven by election workers, judges, and courts that there were no stolen elections last time. Think before you vote. Which candidate has the safety, freedom, empathy, and desire to unite not divide. i believe that is what we all desire. Vote down the ballot for the Democratic candidates.
