Trumpsters & Ukraine
To the Editor:
Our Fayette County Trumpsters are fact free frequently in the Record’s Letters to the Editor. Defending Little Donnie’s pathetic performance concerning the Ukraine is a recent example.
Question: During the four years in office during his first chaos, how may tanks, Bradely Fighting Vehicles, 155 mm howitzers and fighter aircraft did Little Donnie give the Ukraine?
Answer: Zero. Pitiful. In 2008, the Ukraine first requested NATO membership and later in 2019 enshrined their policy of achieving European Union (EU) and NATO memberships in their constitution. Forgetting the strategic NATO error of not enrolling the Ukraine into the “club” prior to the Russian invasion of the Crimea, or later up to 2022, let us examine the situation starting in 2014.
Following are numbers from Little Donnie’s U.S. Department of State, “U.S. Security Cooperation with Ukraine Fact Sheet” dated March 12, 2025: “To date, we have provided $66.5 billion in military assistance since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and approximately $69.2 billion in military assistance since Russia’s initial invasion of Ukraine in 2014.”
On February 20, 2014, Russia invaded the Crimea and then almost exactly eight years later, attempted to take the entire Ukraine. During those years, we provided $2.7 billion of military aid, which is a miserly $0.338 Billion per year, including the crucial four years of the first Little Donnie regime. European nations matched with their miserly contributions.
Putin built up his transportation infrastructure, including the Crimean Bridge (Kerch Straight Bridge), to firm up his logistics for a general invasion from both north and south, during Little Donnie’s first term. The railroad bridge was completed in December 2019. That bridge was crucial to move cargos and combat units because sending resources to the Crimea was slow and vulnerable over the shallow Sea of Azov. During the buildup to full scale war, more than forty large freight trains a day crossed, rumbling over the bridge as Little Donnie watched.
Putin waited on the invasion of the entire Ukraine not because his blood brother was President, but because he needed the infrastructure in place and Europe was paying him well. From 2014 through 2024, Europe paid Russia 576 billion Euros ($628 billion) for oil and 173 billion Euros for natural gas. As late as 2021, 90% of the oil imported into the EU and 40% of the natural gas were from Russia. Oil and gas revenues covered much of the Russian government budget from 2015 to 2024.
During this time, Germany shut down their nuclear power plants. Incredibly, Germans felt it was a good plan to rely on Russian energy. The Tsar was happy to wait for Germany, the largest European economy, to commit energy hara-kiri. Remember that the German economy is larger than Russia’s.
Even in 2024, the third year of the war, the EU paid 21.9 billion Euros to Russia for fossil fuels while sending only 18.7 Billion in aid to the Ukraine.
Military success requires logistics, equipment, training, morale and leadership. Little Donnie and Europe failed to establish a robust NATO supply line to the Ukraine and supplied only enough western military equipment for the Ukraine to hold on. Little Donnie spent much effort to DECREASE morale. During the vital period to prepare the Ukraine for what intelligence reports predicted, Little Donnie insulted, denigrated and threatened NATO. Putin was happy to let Little Donnie rampage and evaluate the damage.
The Ukraine begged to be accepted into NATO for years, and Little Donnie ignored them. He made no attempt to make it happen.
Trumpsters want you to believe that because Obama was incapable of managing an international crisis, you should not criticize Little Donnie for his bumbling performance. Even a modest $10 to 15 billion per year military buildup during Little Donnie’s four years to turn the Ukraine into a NATO standards military machine would have made all the difference in what followed. This level of support is peanuts for the huge economies dwarfing Russia.
Good leadership was needed to galvanize the Europeans to send substantial armaments to the Ukraine. However, Little Donnie and the Europeans inserted their heads into the proverbial sand to avoid victory.
Only now in 2025 is Little Donnie concerned about the Ukraine’s valuable mineral deposits, and he wants to control them. It is amazing, but during his first rodeo, our selfproclaimed “genius” gave no indication that he knew that the Ukraine has important minerals. Plus, only now does he realized that the Ukraine is “the Breadbasket of Europe,” with exceptionally fertile soil and growing prodigious quantities of grains.
Recall that the President Ronald Reagan Doctrine was “We win, they lose”, but now we have the Republican Little Donnie Thug Doctrine: “Beat up and insult friends and praise second and third-rate war criminals.”
Little Donnie’s failures have resulted in undersupply leading to excessive deaths of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians. If he is such a stellar negotiator and close to his good buddy Putin, why wasn’t there closure during his first term? Some of Little Donnie’s crazy and defeatist comments:
• The Ukraine “should never have started this war.”
• Zelensky is “down at 4% approval rating.”
• Zelensky is a “dictator”.
• “It’s demolished. The pe ple are dead. The country is in rubble.”
• Trump Advisor Fiona Hill, Senior Director for European and RussianAffairs on the National Security Council from 2017 to 2019, reports that during his first term “Trump made it very clear that he thought Ukraine must be part of Russia.”
• A few days in February 2022 after Putin began his attempt at conquering all the Ukraine, Little Donnie said it was “genius” and “savvy” and approved of Putin declaring the eastern provinces immediately independent.
• Accused the Ukraine of not previously negotiating. The Ukraine tried, but neither did Little Donnie get Russia to the negotiating table.
•An agreement with Russia was nearly completed. However, it was derailed by the torture, rape, execution and mass murder of civilians in Bucha, Ukraine, in March 2022. Russians refer to this as “sacristan” (cleansing). Additionally, Russia refused to allow guarantees.
Putin’s “useful idiots” in American and Europe enabled a second-rater to bumble along and seize territory and kill people committed to Western Democracy.
You cannot put lipstick on this pig, but Fayette County Trumpsters give it their best, rushing to defend Little Donnie’s lies, crimes and ridiculous statements.
