Time to Speak Up
To the Editor:
“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”
– Desmond Tutu
All who enjoy freedom and want to live in a Democracy must not be silent. Moderates who keep hoping that the Republican nominee won’t be the former president are speaking out in favor of the other Republican running for President. It does not look like that she has a chance.
It is time to speak out about the danger of a man who wants an authoritarian government. Step up and encourage folks to take this election very seriously and vote for the candidate that will protect our democracy. If the former president is the nominee, not voting is a vote for him. We must all speak out against a man who has destroyed the Republican Party, a party who used to be for law and order, who supported all families and the Constitution, and a government of compromise. There are still those who believe in these values, values that we all believe in. We don’t always agree about the same politics, but have worked together to get things accomplished.
An authoritarian government will take away our freedoms and damage the America we love. It is too important a time to ignore “the elephant in the room” literally. The twice impeached former president wants an authoritarian government, no accountability for unlawful acts, revenge against those who disagree with him, clearly uses fear-mongering as a scare tactic, pushed back women’s rights to the dark ages, insults other cultures and races, insults our allies and endangers them by pandering to Russia, openly blocks by-partisan legislation that would help the border situation and Ukraine. He encouraged an insurrection and endangered the lives of the Congress and his vice-president and the brave policemen who tried to stop it. Some say there will be sensible people to stop him. Remember Jan. 6.
We all must step up and speak out to save our Democracy and up hold our Constitution. Vote.
