Thanks to Firefi ghters
To the Editor:
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing all of our county fire departments work at one time or another but last Friday was different; it was my property on fire and needing their attention. One of my neighbors had a spark come off of his tractor, and a large fire ensued that was estimated near 70 acres in total. I believe five properties were partially burned. As usual, the fire deparment members dropped everything to serve their neighbors.
Eight fire apperatus from two departments responded. Round Top-Warrenton VFD, and Fayetteville VFD kept the fire from reaching any structures or a large hay storage area. I was of course greatful for thier service, but after the fire was out I recognized something of note. Under thier bunker gear, these firefighters wore many different “uniforms.” There were bankers in dress shirts, laborers, a police officer with a gun on his hip, and guys wearing the comfortable clothes of retirement. All walks of life, young and old came together at a moments notice to help my family and my neighbors.
I spent a career as a bigcity firefighter, and loved it. There is something extra special though about nieghbors protecting and serving thier friends and family. Thank you to Round Top Warrenton and Fayetteville Fire Departments, their officers, and all of their members. If. you are reading this and have never been to a local fire department fundraiser, please attend one. Buy the stew, the fried chicken plate, a raffle ticket, and an auction item. Also consider picking up the check if you see these special neighbors at a local restaurant.
