Ten Years Later, Tax Rate Is Down
To the Editor:
How interesting to get the Tuesday Time Capsule email today. Ten years ago, Fayette County commissioners had proposed a new 2014 tax rate of 41.930 cents per $100, the front-page story said. Last week’s paper says they have proposed a 2024 tax rate of 41.196 cents per $100.
Ten years later, and the tax rate is actually lower. Sure, appraised values are up - way up, in fact. But so is the actual value of my home. If the extra tax money the county gets goes to keep me safe and assure me life-saving emergency medical response if I need it, I’m okay with that.
