SISD Should Make Decisions in Best Interest of Students

To the Editor:

I have been fortunate to know Richard Hoogendoorn both personally and professionally for a little over 10 years now. Not a long time by any means, but long enough to know that he is a man of impeccable integrity, unquestionable ethics, and unwavering faith. Exactly the character traits public education needs. Over the course of 25 years at Schulenburg ISD and close to 50 years total, Coach Hoog has made a difference in the lives of thousands of students as well as countless colleagues, including myself. He has also amassed an insane number of victories on the court: 500 at SISD and close to 900 overall. But none of these things matter when you have a new Superintendent and a new AD making adult decisions based on adult needs and wants rather than the way it should be - the best interest of the students. This happens in the education field from time to time as I can personally attest, but that doesn’t make it right. Do better SISD. The students and Coach Hoog deserve it - although he’d only care about the former.
