This Saturday, Dec. 16, is the Library’s Christmas Extravaganza! From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. there will be lots of activities including game booths, music, and of course, Christmas Treats. Santa Claus will be making an appearance so be sure to wear your Christmas best. This is free and open to the public. Hope to see you there.

Live and Local

If you’re a live music – lover, Round Top always has you covered. On Friday night, Nathan Hinojosa will be playing at Busted Oak Cellars on Round Top Road. Saturday, check out April Hall at Busted Oaks, or Risky Liver at The Stone Cellar.

Christmas Eve Brunch

Enjoy a Christmas Eve Brunch at Duo Market Hill from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 24. The menu includes smoked ham, beef tenderloin, sausage, hash browns, egg casserole, cranberry sauce meatballs, eggs benedict, eggnog French toast, maple bacon pancake bites, roasted vegetables, salad, and a dark chocolate gingerbread cake for dessert. This will be a fun and festive day to celebrate the season! Reservations are recommended.

Round Top-Carmine ISD School is out for Christmas. The Round Top – Carmine kiddos have kicked-off their Christmas vacation, and will enjoy days off until Monday, Jan. 8. To ring in the Christmas festivities, the children had a dress-up week this past week, with “Jolly Jammies,” “Santa vs. the Grinch,” “Santa’s Workshop” (dress up like an elf day,) “Tacky Threads,” and “Flannel Friday.”

Share the Joy Tree

The “Share the Joy Tree” is up at the Round Top-Carmine High School. This year the school is sponsoring nearly 30 children for Christmas. If you’d like to contribute to this special cause, contact the school office at (979) 9666118, or send an email to rkuecker@ rtcisd.net. This tree supports local families in need this Christmas season.

Round Top Rifle Hall

There will be no more Monday Night Hamburger Socials for this year. The next event at the Hall will be the New Years Eve dance. More information to come.

Round Top Family Library

Now is the time to sign up for the Library’s 19th annual Chili Cook-Off scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 14 at the Round Top Rifle Hall. Apply online at ilovetoread.org or pick up an application at the library. This is a huge fundraiser for the library and always tons of fun.

Festival Hill

The Linda Patterson and Friends concert is Monday, Jan. 1, the Houston Jazz Orchestra performance is Saturday, Jan. 13, and Asleep At the Wheel will perform Saturday, Jan. 27. Tickets and more information for all of these events can be found at festivalhill.org.

Town Council

The Round Top Town Council meetings are held the second Monday of the month at the Town Hall located at 100 Main Street unless otherwise posted. Citizens are encouraged and welcome to attend. Agendas are posted on the website at www.townofroundtop. org at least 72 hours prior to the meeting time.

Church News

St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Warrenton holds a monthly service at 8 a.m. for the intentions left on the altar. This month’s Mass service was held Tuesday, Dec. 12. View the bulletin online at stjohnfayetteville.com for more information.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church holds services with Pastor John David Nedbalek Sundays at 9:30 a.m. Sunday school is the first Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Ruth Circle is the first Thursday of each month at 9:30 a.m. Sewing Circle is the second Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. Pastor John David leads adult bible study the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m.

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby holds worship service at 8 a.m., followed by fellowship, coffee, and Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. Game Day is held the first Wednesday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. Quilting meets the third Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m.

Sunday, Dec. 17 is the annual Christmas Caroling at the Historical Church across the road in Shelby. This is a wonderful evening for the whole family with Christmas music and treats following. Bring a flashlight and jacket or blanket, as there is no electricity in the old church.

Wednesday Advent services for St. Paul and Bethlehem Lutheran will be held at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church fellowship hall. A meal is served at 6 p.m., followed by the service at 7 p.m. All are welcome. The regularly scheduled morning church services at Bethlehem Lutheran and St. Paul’s will be held on Sunday, Dec. 24 to celebrate the fourth Sunday in Advent. A Christmas Eve vigil service will be held in Round Top at 11 p.m. Sunday evening with Holy Communion and the annual candle lighting ceremony. There will be no service on Christmas Day at either BLC or St. Paul.

St. Cecilia’s Round Top Episcopal Church holds services with Father Bill Miller Sundays at 8:45 and 10:45 a.m. in the historic Haw Creek Chapel in Henkel Square. For more information, visit www. StCecilias.org.

Saint Cecilia’s will be hosting a Christmas Concert for Peace in the Festival Hill Concert Hall on Friday, Dec. 22 at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit organizations working collaboratively for Peace in the Holy Land including: The Alliance for Middle East Peace (a coalition of over 160 non-governmental organizations promoting peacebuilding between Israelis and Palestinians), and member organizations The Parents’ Circle and Combatants for Peace.
