Research is Variable
To the Editor:
Ms. Hooper (regarding your letter last week), research is open to interpretation. There are many sites to go to for research and then, one has to evaluate. You report (as though it is truth) that Democrats are to blame for damage to children during the COVID-19 pandemic. School closures were regarded as one of the most effective strategies for preventing transmission of the virus. Many lives were saved. Many factors during COVID-19 affected student performance. In a pandemic, the major emphasis is on saving lives.
It appears from your LTE that you propose that Mr. Talarico, a Democrat, couldn’t possibly be a Christian as though you can “see” what is in his heart. It appears, also, that the whole culture of Muslims are being disrespected. “Hate” rhetoric is disturbing.
Many teachers and retired teachers feel that vouchers will hurt public schools, especially rural schools. Most Texans agree. I am a retired teacher and have taught in both public and private schools. Both schools have their advantages, but the foundation of our nation was built on the idea that public education for the masses would sustain our country.
From the Bible: Matthew 7.1: Judge not, lest ye be judged.
