Repent for Past Sins

To the Editor:

Just read your editorial related to the infamous brothel. Very well stated and the citizens of our county should repent for not making a bigger fuss about its continuance for those many years.

As an example of how wide and far spread the city of La Grange was known...I played some years in the Dodger Organization (Florida, Alabama, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Montana, Idaho, New Mexico and a few other stops). The first couple of years, I claimed La Grange as my hometown. Invariably, in almost every state there would be someone who would contact me after a game and ask me about the “famous chicken ranch.” Wondering if all they heard was really true.

This was in the early 1960s, revealing my true age today. In the remaining years, I requested my hometown to be announced as Weimar, since they were a pretty good baseball town, even in those days.

Just a thought, but since this subject is once again receiving attention, I would encourage and welcome the ministers of Fayette County, and especially La Grange to assemble on the courthouse square and hold a “Repentance Service” and invite the public to join. It could be the proper way to once and for all ask God to forgive us for staying silent and doing nothing and put this behind us once and for all. When God forgives, He not only forgives true repentance...He also forgets our past failings and so can we the people make this a forgotten memory.
