Presidential Con Man
To the Editor:
The moto of a con man is “Never drop the con.” Some elected to high office use the con to build power and ego.
I decided to look up some characteristics of one who cons and what draws his victims in.
Many con men are narcissists. The ability to manipulate and deceive provides a sense of power and control over victims. Sound familiar?
They get a thrill and enjoy the excitement and challenge of pulling off the deception.
They use ill- gotten gains to project an image of wealth and success. Sound familiar?
A need for validation can sometimes drive con artistry. They often build trust by creating a façade of likability and credibility to gain the confidence of victims. Sound familiar?
They play on the fears, desires, and vulnerabilities that cause the victims to be more susceptible. The victims feel that their immediate needs are being met and fear the potential risks that the con man’s rhetoric has presented to them.
The loyalty to the con man is almost cult-like. The facts are no match for the spins and lies. Sound familiar?
The election is over. I certainly hope that the president elect will serve the citizens of our great nation, not himself.
