Pomp & Circumstance

To the Editor:

Most Americans do not want the President of their country to fail. I think most Democrats, Republicans, Independents, even folks who don’t vote care about the state of their country. With this in mind, I decided to watch the Inauguration of our 47th President.

There is always a certain amount of ceremony to these events, but this was “over the top.” The phrase “pomp and circumstance” was coined to describe the coronation of royalty, a king, not the President of the United States.

Next came the pledge, the part where the in-coming President pledges to uphold the Constitution. He later signed a proclamation to do away with the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. He has no right to do that.

Next came the speech and the decision to use the platform as a “bully pulpit.” He insulted the out-going President while he and his wife were sitting in the room listening.

He continued to degrade all immigrants, even those who are hardworking folks who help our economy and pay their taxes. He continued to promote the big lie about the 2020 election knowing that he was going to pardon the rioters. He unleashed violent criminals into our country, some of whom are leaders in domestic terrorist groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers.

Days later he continues to make our country less safe by pulling out of World Health Organization, climate change organization, nominating unqualified candidates for cabinet positions. He wants to hurt our public schools, our health care system, get rid of FEMA-our help during disasters.

If he follows through and the Congress doesn’t stop this rampage, It is hard to see anything “golden” but his throne.
