No Need to Import Crime

To the Editor:

The authors of two opinion articles in last week’s FCR should listen to what they are saying. They are saying that the horrific murders committed by illegal immigrants are regrettable, but we should welcome millions of illegal immigrants (without knowing who they are) because the migrants are better than we are.

The opinion writers tell us that illegal immigrants commit fewer crimes per capita than native-born Americans. Actually, every illegal immigrant has shown a disregard for our laws, and has committed at least one crime by entering our country illegally. Yes, it really is a federal crime, a felony, to enter this country at a place other than a port of entry. And once here quite a few immigrants do commit crimes, some of which have been horrific. Americans commit enough crime on their own. We don’t need to import any more of it.

One opinion writer tells us that the solution is more gun control. That has been tried with little success. For example, Chicago has some of the most restrictive gun controls in the country and also one of the highest murder rates. There are some Constitutional issues as well.

Another opinion writer tells us that we need not worry about the illegal immigrants being future voters because they make such a remarkable economic contribution to our country. Well, so far they have put such an economic strain on sanctuary cities that these cities are asking for federal economic assistance.

The combination of open borders and socialism is a prescription for national suicide. How many people are there in the world who would like to come to this country?
