From a Newcomer

To the editor:

I recently moved/retired to La Grange from Houston. Please don’t hold that against me. I don’t want the locals to think that I’m bringing any type of big city problems with me. I escaped the city for a multitude of reasons.

Besides, I’m really a small town girl. I was born in Austin back before Austin was fashionable and everyone wanted to live there. I grew up in San Antonio, had a great grandmother in San Marcos and her daughter, my grandmother lived in Austin. I guess you could say the hill country is where my roots are. The reason I ended up in Houston is a long story and who has time for that.

Aside from all that, what I really wanted to say is how much I love your little town and it was serendipity that brought me here. Parts of La Grange remind me of San Marcos; beautiful, hilly and historic. As a newcomer, I promise to respect the town and its residents and that’s easy to do because everyone is so nice!
