New Theatre a Great Idea

To the Editor:

The Fayette County Community Theater needs a home, and if the old Prause’s Meat Market building on the La Grange square works for them, I think that’s not only great for them, but it’s wonderful for the entire county. Providing and supporting the arts in communities, and especially rural communities, benefits all in that community, and in our case, the entire county. Worried about the lack of tax dollars from one nonprofit? Think about the restaurants and shops that will benefit from having people on the square for a show. In this particular case, it keeps those dollars closer to home rather than sending participants and theater goers to communities outside Fayette County.

Arts and cultural events and activities provide direct economic benefits to states and communities. They create jobs, attract investments, generate tax revenue, and stimulate local economies through tourism and consumer purchases. Not only that, but studies published by the Texas Cultural Trust show that children who participate in arts activities have higher test scores and better school performance than children who do not participate in those things. Arts for Rural Texas is proud to partner with the Fayette County Community Theater and supports them in their endeavors to provide more theater opportunities to children and adults in Fayette County.
