National Library Week-April 7-13
To the editor:
I love libraries! They were a part of my childhood and education. My school library didn’t have a large selection of books. Luckily my family loved books and reading. They took me to the big library in Waco that helped ignite a spark in me for a love of books and reading. Not all children have that privilege and that’s why school libraries are so important. Today, school libraries are a center of education. When I was teaching here in La Grange, my students looked forward to “Library Day.” Our library, as are most school libraries, was organized to promote all different levels of reading. Even students struggling with reading looked forward to library day and listening to a story read by the librarian or teacher. It opened up a world unknown to them and helped them get to know other cultures.
Librarians love books and organize their libraries to welcome every student, preparing them for real life, and encouraging them to become lovers of books. Librarians and library workers play a part in transforming lives and strengthening our communities. Let’s celebrate and support our libraries!
