The Merits of Haley
To the Editor:
As the only conservative alternative to Donald Trump, Nikki Haley deserves vigorous support from all rational conservatives. Polls indicate that she will handily defeat Joe Biden.
Trump’s record as President between 2016 and 2020, includes the following:
• Added $9 trillion to the national debt in 4 years. Spent like a Democrat on domestic programs.
• Showed no resistance to the $2 trillion Covid blowout in March 2020. Complained that Congress’s $900 billion Covid spending was too stingy.
• Failed to build the border wall he promised.
• Failed to replace ObamaCare as he promised.
His behavior since 2020 includes encouraging the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol. Chaos follows him wherever he goes. He talks trash about our military, particularly those who gave their lives defending our country -- he regularly refers to soldiers who were killed in action as “losers.” Trump has said that if elected he will be a dictator for one day; that is all it takes to become a dictator permanently. At the currently ongoing trials he and his attorneys are continually vigorously expressing their contempt for the U.S. legal system. If he becomes President he will have the power to demolish it and he has clearly said that is what he will do. He is continually threatening revenge on his political enemies. He says, “I don’t get angry. I get even.” Will your vote be determined by this threat? We don’t want a President whose principal motivation is punishment of his adversaries.
For 250 years the United States of America has been a government of the people, by the people and for the people. Trump wants it to be of the President and for the President.
In the March 2024 GOP primary election, voters must vote (a) for a candidate who believes in the fundamental principles of the American democracy, and (b) for a candidate who can win in November. We want a President who will treat all citizens fairly.
Nikki Haley ensures the survival of our current system of government.
