Meltdown Mode
To the editor:
I’m perplexed with where to begin with the utter lack of knowledge about election law displayed in Cindy’s letter from the 26-July edition of the FCR. Let’s start first with the false statement she made: NO, Biden was not forced off the ticket by the Democrats. No one could have forced Biden off the ticket. Biden had the pledged delegates to win the nomination and seal his candidacy. Biden chose to step aside. To claim or infer anything less is pure lunacy and lacks any foundation in truth; however, it shouldn’t surprise that some would try to operate in nontruths and half-truths. What we witnessed with Biden stepping aside is actually something you will never see from Trump: putting country above one’s self. Biden, just like Trump, represents a bygone era and it’s high-time to see younger, more energetic, non-geriatric folks vying to lead our country.
Yet, what I find most telling from Speaker Johnson’s comments on Biden stepping aside, is an attempt by the Republican speaker to interject himself in Democratic party politics. Each party is responsible to run their own primaries. As long as they abide by the rules set forth by each state party for the primary, they have full autonomy to conduct the primary as they see fit. Speaker Johnson knows this and he knows his comments were absolutely false. I don’t expect Ms. Rodibaugh necessarily knows this based on her letter... or was she just being disingenuous?
To be explicitly clear, the Democratic party didn’t force Biden out, Biden ELECTED to leave the race. This represents a selfless, bold, and empathetic act unparalleled in history. Again, something the former guys.. the malignant narcissist would never do.
Joe Biden’s failed (fill in the blank). This is pure hogwash with a side of gaslighting. Joe Biden’s administration has delivered on an infrastructure deal which has proved elusive to his predecessor and of which even Fayette County has benefitted from. Biden has overseen the strongest recovery in US history and historic low unemployment while seeing improved wages for the average American. Since the end of WWII, the US economy has performed better under Democratic administrations than Republican administrations. Yet, Republicans seem to continue to attempt to gaslight the American people that they do better. Facts are funny things: they don’t care if you’re a Republican or a Democrat, a Liberal or a Conservative. The FACT remains that the economy does better under Democrats.
The Democratic party is not in free fall. The enthusiasm gap which Trump enjoyed the past few months is gone. Evaporated. Democrats are now putting Republicans on the defensive. Even moderate Republicans are getting behind the Harris campaign (Haley voters for Harris) and the flub in picking JD Vance is already starting to show cracks (reminiscent of the Palin pick). Voters are energized on the left unlike I’ve seen since 2008. Independents, liberals, and moderate conservatives are all starting to come out in support of Harris.
Another fact remains: Speaker Johnson, Ms. Rodibaugh, and Trump are in meltdown mode not because of some anti-democratic process, but because their once solid lead is gone and the enthusiasm gap is now on the Republican side. Maybe you shouldn’t have been the first party to nominate a 34x convicted felon as your presidential nominee.
