Leveling School ‘Paying Field’

To the Editor:

Please educate those who do not understand the reason Governor Abbott is subsidizing parents of children attending private schools in the amount of $10,000.

Parents of private school children pay school taxes for public schools even though their children do not attend public school.

For years, the state legislature has seen this situation unfair to parents of private school children.

Governor Abbott has seen this injustice and is now “righting a wrong” by returning to the parents of private school children a portion of the school taxes collected from these parents for the operation of public schools. Private school parents continue to pay (public ) school taxes even though their children are not in public schools. No school tax is given to private schools. The $10,000 seems a fair way of leveling the “paying field” for parents of both public and private schools.
