Let’s Cool It With the Corporate Tax Breaks

To the editor:

At what point is it necessary to grant tax abatements to corporations while the landholders end up paying more in taxes? If a corporation cannot yield a profit without a tax abatement then maybe they should be looking for some other project.

The taxpayers, in Fayette County, do not get to share in the profits of these corporations benefiting from these tax abatements and that is wrong. We the land owners do not get any real say in how much taxes we have to pay, but it seems that the County gets to give away tax dollars only to turn around and complain about budget shortfalls. Then in turn end up raising the landowners tax rate. Where does it all stop?

An end to the County giving abatements to companies that have no interest in the welfare of Fayette County, but our elected officials don’t seem to mind welcoming these companies with our tax dollars.
