Halloween Celebration

To the editor:

Let me begin by acknowledging Mr. Cernosek’s letter in last week’s FCR. I’m well aware of the origins of Halloween and what the Bible says about what we should celebrate as God’s people.

That being said, I participated in Halloween on the Square through the company I work for. Most of us dressed up in costume to give out candy and visit with the people of Fayette County. You know what I saw? Parents, kids, and friends enjoying a beautiful autumn afternoon. Kids and adults alike used their imagination to dress up as their favorite characters. Many things made me smile but a couple of things stood out. First was parents and kids out together enjoying themselves, not on their phones, but interacting with each other. Second, I saw many parents reminding their children to say thank you for getting candy. Many parents also thanked us for participating and giving out candy.

In this day and age, when there are so many evil hateful people and things happening in the United States and the world, it was nice to see that we could come together for an afternoon of laughter and fun; regardless of the reason.
