Golden Rule

To the Editor:

The day after Trump’s inauguration the CBS evening news broadcast focused on the ‘dangers’ of the Jan. 6 pardons Trump issued without a word about Biden’s preemptive pardons hours before the inauguration ceremony.

Biden’s preemptive pardons included the members of his family and the House committee that was supposed to investigate the events at the Capitol on Jan 6, 2021. Biden’s statement regarding the pardons was “to guard against potential revenge” and “not to be mistaken as an acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing, nor should acceptance be misconstrued as an admission of guilt for any offense.”

The same qualifying statement can be applied to the Trump pardons.

An AP article by Ed Donhue quotes Biden, “Even when individuals have done nothing wrong – and in fact have done the right thing – and will ultimately be exonerated, the mere fact of being investigated or prosecuted can irreparably damage reputations and finances.”

So, what I’m seeing is Biden attempting to protect his administration from getting the same treatment they have been dishing out to Trump.

I was taught the Biblical Golden Rule from Luke 6:31 (NIV) which says, “Do to others what you would have them do to you.”

I think Biden’s Golden Rule must be interpreted,” Don’t do to me and mine what I’ve done to you.” His political career has demonstrated this attitude. He has been a puppet for handlers who have not been honest in portraying the values of the American citizen nor has his administration been reliable in representing the American culture. It’s time for the anti-Trumpers to stop rewriting history and the U.S. Constitution and “turn the page,” as Kamala Harris has said, to reality.
