FEC’s Excellent Service
To the editor:
3:00 a.m. and the power is out due to strong overnight thunderstorms. It has flickered on and turned right back off a couple of times and it triggers my PTSD from when we had no power in Texas for a week when it was sub-zero temperatures outside. The same thing keeps happening now. During that frozen Texas week, the power would flicker on and relief would surge through my soul as I heard the power surge through the house and then it would turn right back off and despair set in once again.
I just called the power company prepared to listen to a recording but this man answered “Fayette Electric”. I said “oh, hello!” I wasn’t expecting anyone to answer and was surprised when a real person actually did. I said “The power is out and since it’s 3:00 a.m., I didn’t know if anybody had reported it.” He went on to tell me that he knew, and that they were working on it and even gave me details about what the problem seems to be and what they’re trying to do to resolve it as if this 67-year-old woman who couldn’t pass beginners algebra in high school understands electricity which she does not.
I then remembered that I live in a small town now and customer service actually exists! You can make a phone call and talk to a real live human being!
6:00 a.m. and the power has been restored, this time for good it seems. Thank you Fayette Electric for your service, in more ways than one!
