Fayette Co. Isn’t Nolan Co.

To the editor:

I read the recent letter to The Fayette County Record regarding wind turbines in Nolan County (Sweetwater, Texas) and how that County embraces them.

That’s all fine for Nolan County, but Fayette County is different in many ways. Nolan County’s land use and land values are based on an entirely different situation. Property values here are based on scenic and historical values not industrial value. Placement of wind turbines helps otherwise arid, brushy rangeland in Nolan County raise income from an industrial standpoint.

Fayette County’s land values are not Industry based. A firsthand visit to each area clearly demonstrates why turbines are fine for Nolan County but not for Fayette County. And take it from a fellow that spent years in West Texas, wind frequency and velocity is far more compatible with turbine development than here. Furthermore, Fayette County lies within a huge migratory corridor for dozens of species of birds of all kinds headed to the Rockport area as their resting place before the long flight across the Gulf of Mexico to Central America. Many if not most of the species migrate at night. So, the comparison of Sweetwater and Schulenburg is truly apples and oranges. Sweet fruit for Sweetwater. Sour apples for Fayette County.
