Electronic Vehicles
To the editor:
A recent opinion in the Record discussed numerous positives for having an EV. I read the article and came away wondering if the opinion was a positive or a negative towards EVs. Some of the opinion was way off the mark and could easily be challenged against an EV.
I could write an opinion that would easily take an entire page but find most people do not want to read long opinions. If you read the news there are many great takeaway points for owning an EV as there are for not owning an EV.
The one opinion that never seems to be brought out is the flexibility of an EV. If all you want to do is drive between point A and point B the EV might be the way to go. But, if you wish to travel the road less traveled, you might be out of luck unless there will be a charging station on the way.
One has to wonder what would have happened if there was a mass exodus out of Houston due to a hurricane. How many people habitually charge their cars to maintain full charge? There are only so many charging stations and the time needed to charge an EV adequately is somewhat lengthy. How many EVs will be stranded on the roadside for lack of charge? EVs cannot be towed in the conventional method but must be flat-bedded and that is expensive.
The only true decision to be made is how does the EV fit into one’s lifestyle?
