Don’t Repeat Falsehoods
To the editor:
Anything worth repeating or believing is worth verifying. This task isn’t too difficult and doesn’t require much time. I read numerous letters to the editor that present easily debunkable facts, resort to name-calling, and chastise others for using ‘the other side’s’ talking points.
Before you repeat or believe something, I encourage you to verify it. Visit reputable, nonpartisan fact-checking websites. For reference, FactCheck specializes in politics, SciCheck focuses on scientific claims, Viral Spiral tackles internet rumors, and FlackCheck offers resources designed to help viewers recognize flaws in arguments, especially in political ads, highlighting deception and incivility in political rhetoric.
Wondering what to verify? Consider claims like ‘Nancy Pelosi refused National Guard,’ ‘The election was stolen,’ ‘Bigfoot is real,’ ‘The Earth is flat,’ ‘Vaccines did not reduce polio,’ etc.
