Democratic, not Socialist

To the editor:

I am writing to respond to the letter of July 17 written by Cindy Rodibauch of Flatonia suggesting that Democrats are embracing the platform of the Democratic Socialists of America. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

This fringe group supposedly wants to create a democratic socialist republic and re-write the constitution. The Democrats in America want nothing to do with any such crazy nonsense.

There are perhaps 75 million Democrats in this great country.

They are ordinary folks just trying to get by like every one else. They are patriotic Americans. They respect law enforcement and want it to act in responsible ways. They want secure boarders but not secured by violating basic human rights. They embrace our capitalist free enterprise system.

They love and revere the Constitution and want it to be followed by our leaders to the letter.

To suggest that Democrats intend to embrace the un-American platform of this tiny group just because it has used the word Democratic in its name and claims to represent the party is just plain wrong.
