Climate Change

To the Editor:

With the conclusion of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, it’s appropriate to address one of the subjects our “world experts” discussed in great detail. Their conclusions will affect our lives for generations. As hundreds of leaders flew in on their “fuel efficient” private jets, they proclaimed only they know the direction all of us need to follow. Of course, it applies to us, not necessarily to them. We have heard at least one of these predictions from selfproclaimed experts: 1. A “NASA Expert” proclaimed that by 2050 temperatures would be 6-7 degrees hotter and civilization will be severely affected. Forecasters can’t predict the weather out more than a week, so how does a non-weather person make a 30 year forecast.

2. In 2004, the Pentagon stated climate change was a greater threat than terrorism and by 2024 it would plunge major cities beneath rising seas.

3. In 2008, James Hansen, former NASA scientist, told the Associated Press the Arctic would be totally free of sea ice by 2018.

4. Al Gore predicted in 2001 the polar ice cap would be gone in 20 years.

5. Prince Charles claimed back in 2009 that we had just eight years to “save the world” from climate destruction.

You’ll notice a common thread intertwined among these bold predictions ... they have all been wrong. Our country’s leaders and once respected institutions are making every effort to convince us that carbon dioxide is a pollutant causing this catastrophic climate change and these emissions must be stopped regardless of cost. This is not science ... this is science fiction.

Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. Before climate science became politicized, the most recent three warming periods dating back to the rise of the first great civilizations correlated to prosperity and abundant food. Colder intervals were associated with crop failure, famine, and mass depopulation ... just the opposite of what we are being told. Don’t fear the warming. True science and human history tell us to welcome the warmth and fear the cold.

The Earth’s temperature has been increasing in fits and starts for more than 300 years. It has warmed one degree since 1850. This warming trend began long before Mr. Ford rolled out the first Model T. This combination of modest warming and rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide has provided a huge benefit to our ecosystem and to humanity: 1. Deserts are shrinking and the Earth is greening. NASA satellite data from 1982 to 2009 saw as much as 50% of the Earth’s surface increasing in vegetative growth. Even southern Sahara is experiencing a retreat of the desert with plants and grasses blossoming.

2. Extinctions are declining. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List reveals extinctions peaked in the late 1800s and early 1900s and have been in significant decline since then.

3. Natural disasters have been declining. The Center for Research on Epidemiology of Disasters’ database reveals that natural disasters have declined by 10 percent since 2000. Severe weather-related deaths have declined nearly 99 percent since the early 1900s.

Simply put, there is no crisis. Modest warming is providing longer growing seasons, assisting in the cultivation and harvesting of more food. The carbon dioxide increase in recent decades has resulted in improvements in crop harvests accompanying the overall greening of the Earth.

So what’s all the fuss about? It’s about political control. We are watching “science” being transformed into something wholly different...a billy-club, wielded to push left, radical political agendas. We the people decide our type of government and the direction our country is going. It’s an election year and our opportunity to remove incompetent, dishonest incumbents and replace them with people who truly want to make America once again great, economically, financially, politically and spiritually (One Nation Under God.)
