Blind Allegiance

To the editor:

Three weeks ago, while driving to La Grange, I observed a flag display that made me wonder, who will give them a tour of the camps. In this display, the flag of a certain politician was to the right and appeared forward of the American flag. I believe this breaches flag code from what I have looked up before.

I also thought of something I saw a few months ago fits our time in history. That would be Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s collection of essays, ‘After Ten Years.’ He was a Lutheran pastor in Germany, who spoke out against the Nazis treatment of others. He was also implicated in an assassination attempt of Hitler and these two things cost him his life.

‘After Ten Years’ contains two essays that people should read or look up. The first is his, “Theory of Stupidity,” which speaks of believing only what they want to believe even though facts show them something else. I’m not calling anyone stupid because “only stupid people call other people stupid.” There is a video by Sprout called ‘Theory of Stupidity.’

The second is ‘Contempt for Humanity.’ Which to me says a person can grow to hate the other so much that they will allow any level of suffering happen to the other. I have often thought whoever hates another would have to trade places for awhile to see what they would do. If they would feels the same about them. The “Mile in someone else’s shoes.”

My only request is, if you comment only do so if you have read essays or viewed the video. I donated ‘After Ten Years’ to the Schulenburg public library.
