With the song “We are the champions” blaring over the loudspeakers, the members of the La Grange boys basketball team each took a turn climbing up a ladder and cutting down a piece of the net at Lep Gym Friday after their 46-25 win over Giddings.
A historic rivalry was tom apart Thursday as the University Interscholastic League ( UIL) announced its sports realignments for the next two seasons. La Grange and Smithville, which have been district rivals for about a long as anyone can remember (The Leps and Tigers have played each other evety season since 1972 except for 1996 and 97) were placed in different football districts.
The La Grange baseball alumni game has been set for noon this Saturday (Feb. 3) weather permitting (there is a strong chance for heavy rain Friday night and Saturday morning).
Every two years the University Interscholastic League realigns competitive districts. This Thursday the UIL was going to announce new football, volleyball and basketball districts at
9 a.m. The Record will publicize these new districts online and then will have full coverage next week.
There was one person who signed up to comment at the January meeting of the LGISD School Board. Becky Snyder, former public school librarian, spoke to the board on the importance of having diverse library collections.
Tuesday night the La Grange girls soccer team traveled to Manor New Tech. The JV lost 1-0 and the La Grange varsity won 4-1 with goals scored by senior Brisa Angel, sophomore Kaylee Soto, and two by senior Natalie Orona.
