Leps Win at Iconic Venue, Staying Hot Ahead of Friday’s District Opener

The La Grange baseball team is officially on a hot streak, and it’s coming at just the right time, with district play starting this Friday. The Leps (8-5) won their fourth game in a row Monday, beating Goliad 8-2 in a special game at Whataburger Field, the home of the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Houston Astros’ Double-A team.

Baseball/Softball Round-Up

The La Grange softball team dropped to 0-2 in district and 11-8-1 overall after falling 1-0 to Smithville Tuesday. Last week Lady Tigers pitcher Jessica Hinnant threw a no-hitter against the Lady Leps and she was almost as dominant Tuesday, hurling a complete game one-hitter with 14 strikeouts.

Fayetteville Ends Historic Season as State Runner-Ups

Lions Were First County Boys Basketball Team to Play in State Finals in 84 years, But Turkey Valley’s Towering Taylor Brothers Were Too Much The Fayetteville Lions’extraordinary basketball season came to a tearful end Thursday at the Alamodome in San Antonio, where they lost to the Turkey Valley Patriots 66-48 in the state title game. “We just want to make sure that we find gratitude in these moments,” Fayetteville head coach Jake Diggs said after the game.

Lions Roar to Heights Not Seen in 84 Years

There can be little debate about who is the clear choice as this week’s Fayette County Athletes of the Week – it’s the members of the Fayetteville boys basketball team in a landslide. No county boys team has ever won a state basketball title.

Fayetteville Advances to State Title Basketball Game

W ith a gutsy performance Monday, this year’s Lions did something no Fayetteville boys basketball team has done in 84 years. In a thrilling state semifinal game at Little River Academy Monday night the Fayetteville Lions beat Huckabay 71-67 to advance to Thursday’s 1A state title game at the Alamodome.
