Baseball/Softball Round-Up
The La Grange softball team dropped to 0-2 in district and 11-8-1 overall after falling 1-0 to Smithville Tuesday.
Last week Lady Tigers pitcher Jessica Hinnant threw a no-hitter against the Lady Leps and she was almost as dominant Tuesday, hurling a complete game one-hitter with 14 strikeouts. Brion Williams got the only hit for La Grange on a bunt. She stole second but was stranded there.
La Grange’s Iylah King pitched a complete game fivehitter with 12 strikeouts.
The Lady Leps host Bellville Friday at 6 p.m.
Schulenburg Girls
The Flatonia softball team beat Schulenburg 17-1 Tuesday to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in district.
Jalee Trussell pitched a complete game two-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Lady Bulldogs.
Presley Cliffe homered and drove in four runs for Flatonia. Brynlee Zimmerman hit two triples, Emma Kosler hit two doubles and Kara Croyle had three hits.
Kerr McBride had the only two hits for the Lady Horns, who fell to 4-10 overall and 0-5 in district.
Shorthorn Baseball
Beats Flatonia 2-1
The Schulenburg baseball team beat Flatonia Tuesday 2-1 as the Shorthorns improved to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in district.
Owen Brenek pitched six innings of one-run ball for the Shorthorns and Nick Goode pitched a scoreless seventh.
Brenek and Jayse Janda got the only two hits for Schulenburg and Landon Conner walked three times and scored both runs.
Kullen Kutac, Max Richter and Bryson Morrill combined on the pitching effort for Flatonia. Caysen Perez drove in Richter with the Bulldogs’ only run.
RTC Falls to Milano
The Round Top-Carmine baseball team lost to Milano 10-1 Tuesday to fall to 1-4 this season. Will Neese had the only two hits for the Cubs, including a triple.
Carter Marburger and Will Neese combined on the pitching effort for the Cubs.
Fayetteville Returns to the Diamond
Just five days after ending basketball season in the title game, the Fayetteville boys were on the diamond.
The defending baseball state champ Lions lost to Ganado 7-3.
Kandon Kaspar, Jacob Muzny and Dylan Henneke all singled for the Lions and Jack Schley doubled and scored two runs. Kaspar, Schley and Henneke all combined on the pitching effort for the Lions (0-1).
Track Meets in LG and SHS This Week
The Rusty Cauthern Relays will be held Friday at Leopard Stadium. Field events begin at 9 a.m. The 3200 meter run begins at 9:15 a.m. Other running events will begin about 12:30 p.m. Besides La Grange, other teams competing include College Station High School, El Campo, Needville and Victoria West.
Also, Schulenburg hosts the Shorthorn Relays Thursday. Field Events begin at 1 p.m. with running events beginning at 3:30 p.m.
